| Description | A long bridge with two cantilever truss sections to allow ships to pass beneath. The bridge was opened in 1929 and demolished beginning in 2005. Printed on verso (partially obscured): 'THE COOPER RIVER BRI[----]cture of concrete and steel [-----] Cooper River, costing over $6, 0[-----] Two and a half miles long, the bridge [----] a maximum elevation of 150 feet. The total height of the bridge above water level is 295 feet to the tip of the steel framework supporting the span. From this lofty eminence an unexcelled scenic driveway is afforded, with a view covering the harbor and islands and mainland. The lights on the bridge are visible for over fifty miles.' |
